About the gym

Achilles Gym is an old-school bodybuilding gym in Stafford, UK, built by a founder who turned personal recovery into a mission to help others find strength. Aistė came to the UK from Lithuania in 2005, but her life changed completely when she suffered a brain bleed during pregnancy that caused a stroke, leaving her unable to walk, talk, or remember. After months in hospital, she refused to accept a future defined by disability and started training from home with weights, rebuilding herself one movement at a time. What began as rehabilitation became a way of life. Years later, that journey became Achilles Gym, a place built around old-school bodybuilding, rare machines, real conversations, and a community that feels more like family than members. She runs the business the same way she rebuilt herself. Keep fighting, keep learning, and never give up.

Summary

This is an episode about why Achilles Gym is not really about the machines. Aistė did not build an old-school bodybuilding gym simply because she loved training. She built it because she understands what it means to lose control of your own body, fight your way back, and discover strength when everything around you tells you to stop. Before Achilles Gym existed, before the rare bodybuilding equipment, before the community that now surrounds the business, Aistė had already fought the hardest battle of her life. While five months pregnant, she suffered a brain bleed that caused a stroke, leaving her unable to walk, talk, or remember. Doctors prepared her family for a future they never expected, but Aistė refused to accept that she would spend the rest of her life disabled.

The road back was not straightforward. After spending months in hospital and undergoing major brain surgery, Aistė returned home with a completely different reality. She had to relearn things most people take for granted. She had lost her memory, her mobility, and her confidence in what her body could do. But she had one thing that never disappeared: determination. She started training at home with weights because it was the one thing she could control. Sitting down, lifting, repeating movements, and slowly rebuilding herself. She had never trained seriously before, but necessity forced her to learn. Training became her rehabilitation, her routine, and eventually the foundation of everything she would build afterwards.

That experience changed the way Aistė viewed fitness. For her, the gym was never just about getting bigger or looking better. It was about what happens internally when someone decides they are not finished yet. After rebuilding herself, she always wanted to create a gym where other people could find that same feeling of strength. Years later, Achilles Gym became that place.

Opening the gym was about creating something different from the commercial fitness world around her. Aistė did not want a space where people simply arrived, completed a workout, and left. She wanted a place where people felt connected. The old-school bodybuilding identity was part of that. The equipment, the atmosphere, and the style of training all reflect a different approach. But the real difference is the people inside it.

Many of Aistė’s clients arrive carrying challenges that are not visible. She says a large number of people struggle with depression, anxiety, and personal difficulties, even when they appear physically strong. The gym became a place where those conversations could happen. Clients sit with her, talk about what they are going through, and find support from someone who understands struggle personally. For Aistė, helping people is not separate from running the gym. It is the reason the gym exists.

That sense of community is also what shaped the physical space itself. Achilles Gym is filled with rare old-school bodybuilding machines that are no longer manufactured, and many of them came through the members themselves. Clients help find equipment, collect machines, repair them, and maintain them because they feel responsible for the place. The gym is not something that belongs only to Aistė. It belongs to everyone who has helped build it.

Running an independent gym still comes with challenges. Achilles Gym operates 24/7, meaning members need access outside normal reception hours while Aistė still has to manage the wider business. Like many independent owners, she wanted to create freedom for her members without creating a business model that depended on constant staffing.

When Aistė started looking for gym management software, she was not looking for a complicated collection of different systems. She wanted something reliable that would support the way her gym already operated. After becoming unhappy with her previous provider, she searched for another solution. What stood out about Wellyx was the customer support. With a 24/7 gym and no reception team available around the clock, she needed confidence that problems would be handled quickly without everything becoming another responsibility on her shoulders.

Access control became a key part of making the 24/7 model possible. Members can use the app to enter the gym, while access information and cameras provide visibility over who enters and leaves. For Aistė, the benefit is not only convenience. It is removing uncertainty. The gym can remain open while she can focus on coaching clients, supporting members, and continuing to grow the business.

What Aistė values most is simplicity. She has spent her entire life learning through challenges, adapting when things changed, and finding solutions when there was no obvious path forward. She does not want unnecessary complications in the business she built. She wants systems that work quietly in the background while she focuses on the people who make Achilles Gym what it is.

The name Achilles represents that mindset. A warrior who continued fighting when everything was against him. Someone who kept standing when others expected him to fall.

That is the philosophy behind the gym.
The philosophy behind Aistė’s journey.
Keep fighting.
Keep standing.
Never give up.

Why we made this

We built Wellyx to take the admin off gym owners’ plates. This series is how we get to know the people we built it for. Behind every account is someone who took a real risk, solved problems no one warned them about, and built something their community shows up for. Wellyx Originals steps out from behind the software to put those owners in front of the camera, in their own words, with no script. Real gym, real results.
